PaperPilot AI Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Sacred Pathway LLC (“Sacred Pathway,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the PaperPilot AI mobile application (“PaperPilot” or “the app”) for iOS. Please read it together with Apple’s privacy practices for the App Store and Sign in with Apple.
About PaperPilot AI
PaperPilot is a document app that lets you scan paper documents, import files, organize documents into folders, search your saved library, and generate summaries, keywords, flashcards, and study guides. Some features run on your device; optional Cloud AI features run on our secure backend when you choose to use them.
Information You Provide
PaperPilot works primarily with the documents and content you choose to create or import. You provide:
- Documents you scan with the camera or import from your photo library or files.
- Text you ask the app to process (for example, to create a summary, keywords, flashcards, or a study guide).
- If you enable Cloud AI, information from Sign in with Apple (described below).
PaperPilot does not require you to create a username or password. Optional sign-in is handled by Apple.
Documents and User Content
Documents, pages, recognized text, folders, and related content you create are stored locally on your device. When you use a Cloud AI feature, the app transmits only the relevant extracted text you ask about — it does not transmit your document images or original files. You should only scan, import, or process documents you have permission to use. You control what you scan and import.
Camera, Photos, and File Access
Camera access is used only when you start a scan. Photo library or file access is used only when you choose to import content. The app does not access your camera, photos, or files in the background.
Cloud AI Processing
Cloud AI features are optional and require an internet connection and Sign in with Apple. When you invoke a Cloud AI feature, the app sends the relevant text (and minimal options, such as the requested task and language) over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the PaperPilot backend operated by Sacred Pathway LLC. Our backend uses a third-party AI processing provider (OpenAI) to generate the result, and returns that result (such as a summary, keywords, flashcards, or study guide) to the app. Your document images and original files are not sent to the backend or to the AI provider. Information transmitted for Cloud AI may be processed for the time reasonably necessary to provide the requested feature, maintain security, resolve errors, and comply with applicable obligations.
On-Device Processing
PaperPilot supports on-device processing for document scanning and text recognition, and, where implemented, for AI features. When Cloud AI is turned off — or when you are signed out, offline, or temporarily rate-limited — supported features fall back to on-device processing, and no document text is sent to our backend for those features. On-device preferences and settings (such as onboarding and appearance choices, and cached subscription status) are stored using Apple platform storage, including UserDefaults and an app group shared with the PaperPilot widget.
Sign in with Apple
If you enable Cloud AI, you sign in using Apple’s Sign in with Apple. The app requests only minimal information and uses a hashed nonce. Depending on your choices, Apple may provide an Apple user identifier and an email address, which may be a private relay email that forwards to you without revealing your real address. The app sends the Apple identity token to our backend to establish a secure session and stores an Apple user identifier and a short-lived session token in your device’s Keychain. Any information received by our backend is subject to the processing and retention described in this policy.
Subscription and Purchase Information
PaperPilot offers an optional subscription, PaperPilot Premium, for $19.99 per month with a 7-day free trial. Purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. Sacred Pathway LLC does not receive your full payment-card details from Apple. Subscription status is provided by Apple (StoreKit) and cached locally on your device to unlock features. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings, and Restore Purchases is available from the subscription screen in the app.
Information Collected Automatically
PaperPilot does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs, and it does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA). The app does not track you across other apps or websites. When you use a Cloud AI feature, our backend may receive the standard technical information necessary to deliver the request over the Internet (such as connection information).
How Information Is Used
We use information to provide and operate the features you request — scanning, importing, organizing, searching, and generating summaries, keywords, flashcards, and study guides — and to maintain security, prevent abuse, and resolve errors. We do not use your information for cross-app tracking or targeted advertising.
How Information Is Shared
We share information only as needed to provide the app:
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple and for processing subscription purchases.
- OpenAI — only the text you submit for a Cloud AI feature, sent through our backend to generate results.
- Legal and safety — if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or the security of our services.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data Retention
Documents and content you create are retained on your device until you delete them or remove the app. Information transmitted to our backend for Cloud AI may be processed for the time reasonably necessary to provide the requested feature, maintain security, resolve errors, and comply with applicable obligations.
Data Security
The app communicates with our backend over encrypted HTTPS connections and stores session credentials in your device’s Keychain. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices and Controls
You choose what to scan or import. You can turn Cloud AI on or off in Settings; with Cloud AI off, supported processing runs on your device. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.
Account and Data Deletion
You can delete individual documents within the app, and deleting the app removes locally stored app information from your device. Deleting the app may not automatically delete information held by our backend or by Apple. To ask a privacy question or request deletion of information associated with your use of Cloud AI, contact us at support@sacredpathway.org. We may need to verify your request, and we may retain certain information where required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
Children’s Privacy
PaperPilot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
International Processing
Cloud AI processing and related services may be performed on servers located in countries other than your own. By using Cloud AI features, you understand that relevant information may be processed in those locations.
Third-Party Services
PaperPilot relies on the following third-party services, each of which maintains its own privacy practices that we encourage you to review: Apple (Sign in with Apple and subscriptions) and OpenAI (AI processing, accessed through our backend).
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Effective Date above and post the updated policy on this page.
